Morf Athletics makes performance sportswear for the region, designed for people who train in Gulf heat rather than in spite of it. The summer collection film had to be shot in that heat, in the desert, at the start of a Dubai summer.

Heat sets the schedule and it does not negotiate. Talent in full training kit cannot work through the middle of a Dubai summer day, and nor can a crew. The light is against you at the same hours. Overhead sun flattens the body and kills the shape of a garment, which on a sportswear film is the thing being sold.

So the day was cut in two. Call time before sunrise and shooting from first light through the early morning. A long break through the middle of the day, off the sand entirely. Back out in the late afternoon to run into sunset. Two usable windows instead of one long day, with the shot list divided between them according to which direction the sun needed to come from.

The location was chosen on the same logic. The stretch of desert used sits on a road outside Dubai that crews work on regularly, which is unglamorous reasoning and the right kind. Talent and crew could drive in, park close to the frame, and get back to shade and water quickly. Nothing had to be carried far across soft sand. On a shoot where the real risk is the temperature rather than the schedule, the distance between the frame and the vehicles is a safety decision before it is a convenience.

What that produces is a film shot entirely in low sun. Long shadows, side light running across the fabric, and the collection reading as clothing with shape and weight rather than as flat colour under a midday sky. It also means the people in it are working at the hours they would genuinely train, which is the version of the brand a Morf customer already recognises.
