Puck Havarti Cheese Food Commercial

A social film for Puck's Havarti line where almost every shot is a separate build, so the day is paced by how fast the room can be rebuilt.

Puck is a dairy brand with long shelf presence across the Gulf, which means a new line does not get introduced so much as noticed. Abstracts brought us in to make the social film for Havarti: short, product-led, no dialogue, built to work with the sound off.

The brief read as a simple product film. It was not. Almost every shot in the finished piece is a different piece of movement, and no two of them share a setup. Cheese falling, seen from directly overhead. A slow push onto the board. A continuous circle around the toaster while it works. A shot that travels with the knife as it goes through the block. On an ordinary food day you light a table and cover it from several angles, and the pace of the day is set by the kitchen. Here the pace was set by how fast the room could be taken apart and rebuilt, because each shot was its own build, its own reset and its own lighting problem.

That is expensive in the only currency a shoot day has, which is time. So the shot list was locked to what the edit actually needed and nothing was shot speculatively. Food came through in waves, so a fresh hero was ready at the moment the next setup was, rather than sitting under lights going tired while the room changed around it.

The reason to take that on is what movement does for cheese on a phone. Static product photography flattens dairy. Every move in the film was chosen for the one thing it shows: the overhead for the fall and the stack, the push for texture at the cut edge, the circle for heat and the working toaster, the knife’s own view for how the block gives. Cut back to back, those moves give the film a pulse from the first frame, which is what a product film needs to survive a feed that is already moving.
